Tropical Storm Warning for Sebastian, Florida

Tropical Storm Warning for Sebastian, Florida

There is currently a Tropical Storm Warning for most of central and south Florida until further notice. We can expect a lot of rain beginning this afternoon and through the weekend.

Sebastian Daily has been monitoring the disturbance since early this week when Hurricane Agatha moved into Mexico. The new tropical store is from the remnants of the hurricane.

The fast-moving disturbance is approximately 500 miles from Sebastian, Florida.

Some weekend events canceled

This weekend, there are a couple of important cancellations in Sebastian due to the tropical storm.

What is a Tropical Storm Warning?

A Tropical Storm Warning means tropical storm-force winds are expected somewhere within our area within the next 36 hours.

Whenever a tropical cyclone (a tropical depression, tropical storm, or hurricane) has formed in the Atlantic, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) issues a tropical cyclone advisory.

The potential winds for this tropical storm is 39 to 57 mph. The wind threat has remained nearly steady for the past 48 hours.

Winds from a tropical storm can cause damage to property, including porches, awnings, carports, sheds, mobile homes, trees, and pick up unsecured objects from yards.

How to prepare

While it’s only a tropical storm, it’s still a good idea to take time to protect property. The best thing you can do is clear any loose debris in your yard since the higher winds will pick up these objects and cause damage to homes.

Please don’t drive on the roads during a tropical storm because of flooding, damaging wind gusts, and even tornadoes.

What to expect

We can expect heavy rains, high winds, and localized flooding. Most of these conditions will occur on Saturday. Showers and thunderstorms will continue over Sebastian on Sunday.

A tropical storm has wind speeds between 39 to 73 mph. A hurricane has wind speeds above 74 mph.

Sebastian Daily will keep you updated with information about the potential tropical storm.
