Week 6 – Sebastian River High School Football Players Spotlight

Week 6 Spotlight

For week 6, the Sebastian River High School (SRHS) football coaches have chosen seniors Salvatore Burrell and Gabriel Herman. Both are outstanding students and deliver exceptional performances on the field.

Salvatore Burrell #72

Salvatore Burrell

Salvatore Burrell, a senior, has showcased his versatility on the football field, playing both offensive and defensive lineman positions. He has previously taken on roles as a linebacker and tight end. Standing at 6’0″ and weighing 190 lbs, Salvatore began his football journey in his freshman year.

Academically, he boasts an impressive 4.05 GPA and aspires to pursue a degree in computer sciences in college.

Burrell told Sebastian Daily, “The coaches have helped me improve not only as a football player but also as a person by teaching me discipline and accountability. And I want to shout out to my friends, family, and coaches for always supporting and believing in me.”

Some of his cherished football experiences involve forging new friendships and connecting with various individuals on his journey.

Beyond the gridiron, Burrell values moments spent with his pals.

Head Coach Perry: “Sal is a very hard-working player. He works just as hard in the classroom. He has benefited from hard work and is now a starter for our team.”

Assistant Coach Brad Butler: “Sal does everything he is asked to do. He puts in the work and never complains. He always plays where he is needed. He is a great teammate.”

Teammate Rox Reiman: “Sal is hard-working, resilient, and tough.”

Gabriel Herman #68

Gabriel Herman

Gabriel Herman, a dedicated senior sportsman at Sebastian River High School, boasts a commendable GPA of 3.5. He aspires to enlist in the Air Force post-graduation, aiming to serve as a fighter pilot. In his second year representing SRHS in football, Herman primarily stands as a guard. However, his versatility allows him to play across both the offensive and defensive lines.

When asked how his coaches have impacted his life, Herman stated, “Overall, they’ve made me strive to be a better person. More specifically, I have to talk about Coach Harris. He started talking with me about playing football in my sophomore year. If not for him, I’m not sure where I would be, but I would guess I’d be a bit fatter and not nearly as disciplined.”

Beyond football, the 6’1″ athlete is passionate about nearly every sport he participates in. For him, the presence of friends transforms any game into an enjoyable experience.

Herman is deeply grateful to his father, mother, stepfather, stepmother, and all those who have endeavored to shape him into a better individual.

Head Coach Perry: “Gabe has matured in the last two years. He has developed a great work ethic, which has allowed him to become a starter on our team.”

From Assistant Coach Franklin: “Gabe works hard and has improved tremendously since last year! Very involved at SRHS! In ROTC and plays tennis! He’s always looking for ways to get better!”

Teammate: Rox Reiman: “Gabe is a multi-sport athlete who does what he’s told and is determined on the field.”

Bye Week

This week marks a pause for SRHS, offering an opportunity for both players and coaches to recalibrate. Coaches generally take this period to reevaluate their strategies, whereas players utilize it to recharge and gear up for the upcoming segment of the season.
