Last week the Color Guard and Cadets of Sebastian River High School’s Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC) volunteered at the Vero Beach Prayer Breakfast at Riverside Park in Vero Beach.
A majority of the Cadets helped serve breakfast to the attendees. The NJROTC Color Guard presented the colors during the pledge of allegiance. The Cadets were one of many local youth organizations volunteering at the event. Volunteers partnered with Chick-Fil-A to assist in serving coffee and chicken biscuit sandwiches.
“These events are a great way to serve the community. The cadets loved it and really enjoyed seeing Tim Tebow and listening to him speak,” said Commander Peter Bissonnette, the Senior Naval Science Instructor at SRHS NJROTC.
Cadet William Lanning said, “It was well organized and a great event to volunteer for.”
Mrs. Featherstone, the event organization, offered high praise to the SRHS NJROTC cadets, saying, “The cadets were the biggest help. They were very respectful and hard-working, and we hope they come back next year.”
The participating cadets loved the event. They had great fun and enjoyed the opportunity to socialize while serving others. For every community event, cadets receive community service hours which helps to build their resume which will help them get into college.
