Snook and redfish are biting near the North Jetty and South Jetty at the Sebastian Inlet State Park. Redfish are still catch-and-release only, and there have been some pompano and black drum near the catwalk of the inlet.
Anglers tell Sebastian Daily they are using a variety of live baits, including croakers, pigfish, live shrimp, silver spoons, and lures.
Fishing has become a great recreational activity for families by either boat or visiting the inlet. It’s a great sport; each catch is fun and challenging for kids.
Scarlett Chesser
Scarlett Chesser of Sebastian caught some snook using a variety of live bait. She uses a 4,000 Shimano reel on a Saltwater series Quantum 20lb class pole. She said it’s her lucky gear this fishing season.
“Fishing has been a great recreational activity that I have turned to that I can enjoy with my family,” she told Sebastian Daily.
Chesser is a Florida native born and raised in the Sebastian/Fellsmere area.
“I grew up raising cattle and developed a love for fishing on the ranch where I grew up! During snook season, we fish the inlet about 2-4 times a week. I always fish with my husband, James Fucci, since he is the Captain! We have a 2350 Bluewater and typically drift, depending on the tides,” said Chesser.
Scott Swatscheno
Scott Swatscheno caught several snook on the South Jetty of the Sebastian Inlet using a Saragosa 6000 reel on a 9-foot rod. He used Rapala X Rap as bait, colored specifically for saltwater use.
“I fish the Sebastian Inlet 2 to 3 times per week,” Swatscheno told Sebastian Daily.
Weather
We will experience some thunderstorms on Friday afternoon at the inlet, but the weather should be great for fishing this weekend. The daytime highs will be near 84 degrees, and the overnight low ear 62. Easterly winds at 5 to 10 mph.
The weather for fishing then turns for the worse on Monday, with a 50 percent chance of rain and wind gusts as high as 25 mph. The rain should clear by Tuesday, but the high winds will continue through Wednesday.
For boaters, the seas will be 3 to 5 feet most of the weekend.

Snook
Snook meat is white and is excellent to eat when cooked right. It’s best eaten fresh because it doesn’t freeze well. They are easy to clean and not as bony as sheepshead or redfish.
Just remove the fillet, remove the skin, add some seasonings or marinade, and put it in the fridge. Then, it’s ready to cook.
Pompano
The pompano is probably one of the best-tasting fish to eat. Some anglers even refer to them as one of the planet’s most edible fish. These fish have no scales, so you cook them with the skin.
