On Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at approximately 10:40 a.m., Brevard County Animal Services responded to the 800 block of Beech Court in Barefoot Bay following an animal cruelty complaint involving two dogs.
According to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, the situation quickly escalated when the animal control officer encountered 53-year-old Craig Wood, who described himself as an expert in martial arts, and became verbally combative. Matters intensified as Wood allegedly jumped a fence and advanced towards the officer in a threatening manner.
The officer retreated to the street as Wood allegedly threatened to hire a private investigator to track him down and harm him and his family, the affidavit said.
Deputies swiftly intervened, arriving at the scene to question Wood. Despite his refusal to provide a sworn statement, Wood admitted his martial arts expertise in spontaneous remarks during the interaction. Wood also told the deputy that the animal control officer was the aggressor.
Deputies charged Wood with Simple Assault with Intent to Threaten Violence and Corruption by Threat Against a Public Servant.
Meanwhile, the situation with the dogs remains unclear, with neighbors indicating they have returned to the residence.
Sebastian Daily has contacted the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office for comment, but we are still awaiting a response.
