The Sons of The American Legion Squadron 189 will be hosting the Patriot Day Service in Riverview Park on September 11th at 8:30 AM.
The public is welcome to attend. The event will be at the City of Sebastian’s Veteran’s Memorial, located just south of the park.
September 11th, 2001, is a date etched into American history. Twenty-two years ago, the unimaginable happened. Two planes crashed into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, a third struck the Pentagon, and a fourth, destined for Washington, D.C., went down in a field in Pennsylvania. Nearly 3,000 lives were lost that day, forever changing the nation.
In the aftermath, the world witnessed an outpouring of unity and resilience. The American people came together to support one another, heal wounds, and honor the memory of those who perished.
The sacrifices made by firefighters, police officers, and ordinary citizens who rushed into danger to save lives became a testament to the human spirit.
Today, we remember the victims of 9/11 and the lasting impact of that tragic day. We honor the heroes who risked everything. We stand united against terrorism and the forces that seek to divide us. And we recommit ourselves to building a better future where peace and understanding prevail.
About The Sebastian Veteran’s Memorial
The Sebastian Veteran’s Memorial, established in 2002, stands as a testament to the city’s profound gratitude for its servicemen and women. This sacred space honors the sacrifices made by those who have defended our nation.
The memorial’s centerpiece is a tribute to the Four Chaplains, installed in 2012. These brave men, representing different faiths, gave their lives to save others aboard the USS Dorchester during World War II.
The Veteran’s Memorial serves as the focal point for the city’s annual commemorations, including Veterans Day, Memorial Day, the 9/11 Ceremony, Four Chaplains Day, and Pearl Harbor Day.
A diverse array of memorials within the park pays tribute to the service of our armed forces, encompassing the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines, Navy, Purple Heart recipients, and veterans of World Wars I and II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Gulf War, the War on Terror, and the specific conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq.
