SEBASTIAN – A statement has been issued by the Captain Hiram’s Resort about founder Tom Collins.

Collins, one of the men who changed waterfront property forever in Sebastian, died suddenly on Saturday.

“It is with deep sorrow we say goodbye to our founder, Tom Collins who passed February 24th, 2018. As you may know, Tom cared deeply about every aspect of our resort and the ultimate guest experience. Since our humble beginnings in 1986, through his vision and partnership of others, we are proud to be known as the area’s largest riverfront resort,” said Director of Marketing Kimball Stadler.

“As we evolve through this difficult time, our President, Will Collins, will continue his Father’s leadership. Thank you kindly for allowing us this time to grieve and process this loss. At this time, the Collin’s family has requested to take care of family matters and a public statement will be forthcoming,” said Stadler.

Further details on Tom’s death were not immediately available.

Condolences from Local Business Owners

“Tom was the pioneer for Sebastian business district. If it wasn’t for Tom, I don’t think what we have done with Tiki would have been possible,” John Campbell, Tiki Bar & Grill owner, told Sebastian Daily.

“My deepest condolences. I was just talking to Tom a couple weeks ago. I am so bummed out. Anything I can do for the family please don’t hesitate to call,” said Bill Crab E Tiedge of Crab E Bills Seafood.
