SEBASTIAN – Czech Sport Aircraft will soon build planes at the Sebastian Municipal Airport.

The Sebastian City Council has approved the 20-year deal that is expected to bring the city about $45,000 a year.

The aircraft assembly plant, in association with Cruiser Aircraft Inc., is expected to be inside a new 15,694-square-foot hangar that is scheduled for completion this summer.

The company will build two-seat planes inside the new hangar. The planes are expected to sell for about $150,000 each.

The facility is expected to become an exclusive import assembly and service center for the United States and Central America.

Most of the parts for the small planes will be built in the Czech Republic and shipped in containers to Sebastian. Employees here will assemble and test-fly the planes from the Sebastian Municipal Airport.

One of the reasons Czech Sport Aircraft had chosen Sebastian for its assembly plant is because of the airport’s reputation as a small airport and because it has no control tower.
