Voters in Indian River County who have opted for Vote-By-Mail in the upcoming 2024 Primary Election should keep an eye on their mailboxes, as the local Elections Office has announced the delivery of thousands of ballots to the post office.
A total of 21,764 ballots were delivered to the post office for residents, with an additional 316 ballots sent to military and overseas voters on July 5. This move marks a significant step in the preparation for the primary elections, ensuring that all registered voters who requested mail ballots receive them in a timely manner.
Supervisor of Elections Leslie Rossway Swan emphasized the importance of filing a request to receive a mail ballot. “Mail ballots are only sent to voters who have a request on file with the Elections Office,” Swan stated. She also highlighted the deadline for such requests, which is August 8 at 5 p.m.
Once voters complete their ballots, they must return them physically to the Supervisor of Elections by 7 p.m. on Election Day, August 20, to ensure they are counted. The United States Postal Service recommends mailing the completed ballots at least one week before the due date to avoid any delays.
Voters who wish to request a mail ballot can do so by calling 772-226-4700 or visiting VoteIndianRiver.gov. To complete the request, a Florida driver’s license, Florida ID, or the last four digits of the voter’s social security number will be required.
