SEBASTIAN – Florida Power & Light connected more homes yesterday and today in Sebastian, including Barefoot Bay, providing electricity to more homes than before.

It’s unclear how many homes are left without power, but an FPL spokesperson told Sebastian Daily that most residents in Sebastian now have power.

Unless there’s a condition that requires more time to replace power lines, local residents who don’t have power could be connected by today or tomorrow.

More businesses along Indian River Drive and U.S. Highway 1 now have power and are opening.

Hurricane Irma did minimal damage to Sebastian, although one building lost part of its roof. And, there was widespread flooding reported in Fellsmere and Vero Beach.

Irma could have been much worse, including catastrophic conditions to Indian River County. It’s safe to say that the hurricane spared our county.

Please remember the new garbage collection schedule for Indian River County as recycling has been suspended until further notice.
