City Council to review meeting procedures and discuss Audubon Society legal fees

On Wednesday, the Sebastian City Council has a packed agenda. They will be discussing everything from legal fees to meeting procedures. There are also a couple of hearings to approve variances.

They are expected to consider paying the legal fees of the Pelican Island Audubon Society over the city’s 1,100-acre annexation with the Graves Brothers. While the city lost the case due to a minor technicality, the court ordered the city to pay the Audubon’s legal fees of $24,960 plus $1,223 in court costs.

The council will also discuss procedures for meetings, workshops, Roberts Rules of Order, agendas, and preparation and modifications.

With Chris Nunn, Fred Jones, and Bob McPartlan, the new council has met the demand by its citizens to get business done for the city following a recall to remove Damien Gilliams, Pamela Parris, and Charles Mauti.

Sebastian residents say they are happy with how the meetings have been conducted, and they appreciate all the professionalism by the Council members.

Residents also appreciate how time-efficient the meetings have been, with city business as the focal point instead of grandstanding and arguing as they’ve seen from the previous council.

Councilman Bob McPartland told Sebastian Daily that this council does its homework and research before the meetings so that they don’t waste time.

City Manager Paul Carlisle confirmed that the council members call to ask him questions before the meetings, which is why they can approve agenda items without stalling.

It’s been a tough political year in Sebastian, and citizens appreciate the change.
